The Failures of the Lower Snake River Dams
When the lower Snake River dams were built, we were promised three things:
The dams would provide low cost navigation for 10 million tons of barley and wheat,
They would provide low cost power, and
They would not harm salmon.
They are failing all three.
Navigation tonnage is less than half its break even level.
Wind and solar power has been less expensive than LSRD power for over a decade.
The fish runs that were supposed to not be harmed are teetering on the edge of extinction.
