A four-day daily program from 9 a.m.- 5 p.m.
Age: 13-17 year olds
Location: Anacortes, WA

Highlights include:

  • Experience incredible marine ecosystem (forage fish eggs, marine algae/grasses, seals, sea lions, and more!)

  • Species identification of marine flora and fauna

  • Water and land-based research participation 

  • Unique college prep and field work exposure

  • Environmental service hours 

  • Small group learning (5:2 student to teacher ratio)

  • Stress-reduction activities

  • Take-home action plans

  • On-going learning community

  • Curiosity inspiration through inquiry based learning

  • STEAM (A for art!) ​​​​

  • Accelerated courses availble (i.e. student designed research) through Guardians of the Sea - Advanced after Guardians of the Sea I program completion

  • All of this combines in a way that is both useful for college applications/scholarships and provides great exposure for those considering a future in marine biology or marine conservation!  

The ultimate goal is to experience the animals' ecosystem and understand how students can become leaders in marine conservation - seeing whales is never guaranteed. 

Each Day Program includes healthy snacks, lunch, and a stop at an island for a hike, bonfire, or tidal pool exploration. More information will be mailed to the participant after the deposit has been received.

The following Next Generation Science Standards are met: HS-LS2-6, HS-LS2-7, HS-LS4-5, HS-ESS1-5, HS-ESS1-6, HS-ESS2-2, HS-ETS1-2.

how do i become a guardian of the sea?

Enroll in one of our four-day programs listed below and become an official Guardian of the Sea!


You will also receive a Guardians of the Sea graduation certificate, special hat with the yellow Guardians trident, and be eligible to attend Guardians of the Sea - Advanced to continue work and/or coordinate more local marine research projects.
