"the mountain and the sea are excellent schoolmasters, and teach some of us more than we can ever learn from books." -john lubbock
Meet Our Team
The Salish Sea School is committed to cultivating and preserving a culture of diversity, inclusion, and connectedness. We are able to grow and learn better together with a diverse team. We welcome the unique contributions that one can bring in terms of their education, opinions, culture, ethnicity, race, sex, gender identity and expression, nation of origin, age, languages spoken, veteran’s status, color, religion, disability, sexual orientation and beliefs.
We are stronger together with the collective sum of individual differences, life experiences, knowledge, innovation, self-expression, and talent which ultimately brings about a healthier planet.
The call of the deep invites your child to meet the Kraken who lives in the Salish Sea…the Giant Pacific Octopus! We are so thrilled to offer our first Kraken Kamp to explore this amazing creature and other invertebrates of the Salish Sea.
The giant Pacific octopus is a highly intelligent animal that can learn to open jars, solve puzzles and interact with caretakers.
Kraken Kamp will be full of adventures as we explore the seldom seen world of the deep sea with segments from My Octopus Teacher, special charter boat going to the deep water of the Salish Sea and using our hands-on underwater drone to explore the creatures we might see there.
We will also explore and learn about the surrounding eco-system and become junior citizen scientists who are empowered to protect and share the story of the Giant Pacific Octopus.
Each student will become a Kraken Karetaker as they have an opportunity to adopt a stuffy Giant Pacific Octopus on the first day of camp.
Note: Lunch is not included, students will need to pack their own lunch, water, and snacks each day.
