"the mountain and the sea are excellent schoolmasters, and teach some of us more than we can ever learn from books." -john lubbock
Meet Our Team
The Salish Sea School is committed to cultivating and preserving a culture of diversity, inclusion, and connectedness. We are able to grow and learn better together with a diverse team. We welcome the unique contributions that one can bring in terms of their education, opinions, culture, ethnicity, race, sex, gender identity and expression, nation of origin, age, languages spoken, veteran’s status, color, religion, disability, sexual orientation and beliefs.

We are stronger together with the collective sum of individual differences, life experiences, knowledge, innovation, self-expression, and talent which ultimately brings about a healthier planet.

ID GUIDES + SURVEYS
"Defining moments are meaningful experiences that stand out in our memories. They shape our lives.
But we don't have to wait for them to happen. We can be the authors of them."
-Chip Heath, Dan Heath, The Power of Moments

We hope these guides encourage every student (and every person!) to get outside and create their defining moment.
When that moment happens, it will bring empowerment, a big smile, and a life long connection to the natural world. It will forever enrich your moments outdoors by being able to identify the wildlife around you. When we name something, we are then able to communicate about it in deeper ways, while also providing an invitation to care and ultimately, protect it.

Another mission of ours is to enhance every student's curiosity, encourage them to always ask questions, and empower them as citizen scientists. Our activities show students how scientists monitor marine ecosystem health and bring them into the data collection.

We believe the desire to save our natural world begins with first experiencing the creatures that rely on it, and we couldn't be more excited to get you out there!
