Open Position:
Part-time Captain for 2025
Key Responsibilities:
-
Safely operate and navigate a 22-foot Hewes Craft in the waters of the Salish Sea.
-
Oversee passenger safety and ensure compliance with all maritime regulations.
-
Collaborate with educators and naturalists to provide exceptional learning experiences for students and tour participants.
-
Assist with basic boat maintenance, including pre- and post-trip checks and basic upkeep.
-
Support wildlife surveys by positioning the vessel appropriately for data collection.
-
Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for participants of all backgrounds.

Qualifications:
-
Current USCG Captain's License (6-pack minimum required).
-
Strong knowledge of the Salish Sea region, including local waterways, weather conditions, and wildlife.
-
Experience operating small vessels with passengers.
-
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
-
Passion for marine conservation and education.
-
CPR/First Aid certification (current or willing to obtain).

Preferred Qualifications:
-
Experience working with youth or leading educational programs.
-
Knowledge of marine birds, mammals, and ecosystems of the Salish Sea.

Familiarity with basic boat maintenance and troubleshooting.

Position Details:
-
Part-time, seasonal position with flexible hours.
-
Programs typically run during weekdays and a few weekends per month.
-
Compensation: Starting at $40/hr
​
Seasonal Schedule:
-
February–May: Lighter driving schedule
-
June–August: Busier schedule, 3–5 days a week to support summer camps, bird surveys, and wildlife ecotours.
-
September–Early October: Reduced driving schedule with lighter demands as programs wind down for the season.
